Family Restoration Begins with Life

Today marks 38 years of taking life by a parent’s choice.

Roe v. Wade changed the legal landscape for women, children and their families, and has brought about the death of more than 53 million would-have-been Americans, and several million of their mothers who died because of those abortions.

This tragedy has been highlighted by the gruesome news of a Pennsylvania Doctor who took abortion to its natural extreme of infanticide, and delivered babies, then killed them, as his method of abortion. Dr. Kermit Gosnell was arraigned last week on eight counts of murder in the deaths of seven babies and one patient. The entire 271 page investigation can be read here http://www.docstoc.com/docs/69618219/Grand-Jury-Report----Philly-Abortionist-Kermit-B-Gosnell-Multiple-Counts-of-Murder-%28January-2011%29, or here: http://www.phila.gov/districtattorney/PDFs/GrandJuryWomensMedical.pdf.

You will be shocked to learn how women are treated for their choice, and how they are witnesses to the savagery of the doctor and his staff. In Family Law class today we will cover how lawyers can make a difference by protecting women harmed by abortion in personal injury litigation focusing on abortion malpractice. To learn more about abortion malpractice see http://www.lifedynamics.com/Abortion_Information/Malpractice/. Dr. Gosnell and his staff are not alone. Rather, they are what is likely the worst extreme of an industry that is necessarily supplied by and thriving on death and destruction.

The truth about abortion and its harm is being exposed rapidly. A former Planned Parenthood Clinic Director in Bryan, Texas, Abby Johnson, who came to faith in Christ and left her clinic after assisting in an abortion, has just released her true story in a book entitled “Unplanned.” Her experience illuminates the tragedy and deception of abortion.

Johnson had a change of heart after agreeing to a request to assist in an abortion procedure and has now converted to the pro-life position. Read the entire article here: http://www.lifenews.com/2011/01/10/first-chapter-of-abby-johnsons-planned-parenthood-book-unplanned/.

Men and women and their families can take the initiative in sparing their loved ones from the tragedy of abortion by illuminating its gruesome and harmful truth, and being personally responsible when facing unplanned pregnancies. Families are restored, no matter what the unexpected circumstances, when family members make decisions that are personally responsible, rather than hiding behind the consequences to the great harm of someone else who relies on them for protection.

Congress is taking some initiative as well. Two bills to stop government funding for abortion were introduced in the House of Representatives last week. H.R. 3, the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” was introduced by Pro-life Caucus Co-Chairs Reps. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) and Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.), and H.R. 358. The “Protect Life Act” was introduced by Energy and Commerce Committee Health Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA) and Dan Lipinski (D-Ill). The “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” will eliminate the need for numerous, separate, annual abortion funding prohibitions (called riders) and ensure that no other program or agency is exempt from this important safeguard. The bill also codifies the conscience clause known as Hyde-Weldon. The “Protect Life Act” will amend the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” (PPACA) to ensure there is no funding for abortion or abortion coverage. The law currently does not include a comprehensive prohibition on such funding. Instead the bill contains accounting gimmicks that explicitly allow funding for abortion coverage. The Obama Executive Order reiterates those accounting gimmicks. Without the “Protect Life Act,” PPACA will become the largest expansion of abortion funding since Roe v. Wade.
“Even the Guttmacher Institute, the former research arm of Planned Parenthood, confirms that taxpayer funding bans are a proven abortion reduction method. According to Guttmacher, studies show that when abortion is not publicly funded, abortions in the covered population are reduced by roughly 25 percent,” said Congressman Chris Smith last week. And Congressman Joe Pitts (Pa.-16) said, “It is imperative that the federal government stays out of the business of subsidizing the morally objectionable practice of abortion. President Obama himself agreed with these goals, and even issued an Executive Order trying to prove his support for prohibiting federal funding for abortion. If he chooses to stand by his word, he should have no problem signing both these bills into law.”
38 years of taking life by a parent’s choice should come to an end. Lawyers who understand what is happening with abortion can make a difference by protecting women harmed by abortion. And with our own responsible choices, we can restore families, and end the gruesome practice of the abortion choice.
