This week the United States House of Representatives House Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitutional Hearing heard testimony from Mr. Piero Tozzi, Senior Legal Counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom on H.J.Res.110, an Amendment to the Constitution Concerning Parental Rights and Education.
Mr. Tozzi cited my work on this issue as a global matter, Suffer the Children: How the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child Has Not Supported Children, 22 N.Y. Int'l. L. Rev. 57 (Summer 2009). You can access this article at the Social Science Research Network at http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1962681, which is also now part of the testimony included in the Congressional Documents and Publications of July 18, 2012.
Congress cares about families, and wisely so. A strong relationship between children and parents, free from unwarranted state intervention, unprotected state interference, and unaccountable international treaties better serves to foster strong families. Family restoration is more than possible - it is absolutely necessary, and wise governments understand and support that strength.
