Sexuality as an Apologetic

Does your sexuality offer the world a reason for your faith in Jesus Christ?  It can if you surrender it to Him and begin the more amazing plan He has for your life.

Speaking the truth about biblical sexuality in a fun, kind, respectful, and loving way is always a challenge – which is why most of us avoid it.  But that does not need to be the case any longer. With fabulous resources such as Telling the Truth About Sex in a Broken Culture, by John Stonestreet, Jackie Hill Perry’s Gay Girl Good God, Sam Alberry’s Is God Anti-Gay, Raleigh Sadler’s Vulnerable: Rethinking Human Trafficking, Philip G. Ryken’s The Song of Song for the Love of Loves, Dr. Ed and Gaye Wheat, Intended for Pleasure, and C.S. Lewis’s great works Mere Christianity, The Weight of Glory, and The Four Loves, the truth is more evident than ever.

I Corinthians 6:12-20 says:

2"I have the right to do anything," but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything"-but I will not be mastered by anything. 13…The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the LORD, and the LORD for the body. 14…15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? …18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

It is imperative to glorify God with our bodies. Your sexuality will either 1) win people to Christ, 2) confuse people on truth, or 3) repel people from the gospel.  Sex is either sacred or destructive – there is no gray area.  And this greatly affects family restoration.

How we live makes all the difference and speaks louder than anything we will ever say. Your sexuality really does make a huge difference – to you and to those around you.  The great news is that Christianity has the sex market cornered and maximized (just read Ryken’s book noted above)! But sin creeps in to destroy that beautiful scenario God originally designed.

As believers we need to tell the truth about sex in a broken culture - this is apologetics – sharing the gospel with our sexuality. And this can be the strongest tool to move toward family restoration.
