Black History: Past & Present is Relevant All Year Long

Black history is happening all the time - not only past, but the present and future are creating history right now.  An important vortex of that history is the protection of women and children. Some critical facts should cause at least some pause.  Although black women make up less than fourteen percent of the population in the United States, statistically black women have some of the highest abortion rates. According to the CDC, 36% of abortions are performed on black women. Currently, 27.1 of every 1000 black women have an abortion whereas only 10 of every 1000 white women get abortions. The Guttmacher Institute tracks abortions by race and ethnicity, and according to their data other minority groups in the United States have extremely high abortion rates. For example, in 2014, 18.1 of every 1000 Hispanic women received an abortion.

That means that most abortions are performed on minority women and their babies of color.  Furthermore, although the United States is experiencing a national decline in the rate of abortions, it is very clear that minority groups have a higher rate of abortions.  This music video calls attention to these facts in a beautiful and profound way.

Black History is relevant all year long, but as Black History month closes, these facts call for special notice.  Family restoration for minority women and children essentially should call for a thoughtful move in the direction of reduction of minority abortions to protect our wonderful racial heritage by safeguarding the future of minorities in America.
