A Person's a Person No Matter How Small

U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) released a proposed rule that would alter the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) regulations in a drastic way.

HIPAA is designed to protect health privacy, but now the executive administration wants to use this law to redefine the term “person” to exclude unborn babies. The administration would also protect those seeking to exploit women and children. Under HHS-OCR-2023-0006-0001, which can be found at Regulations.gov, this new rule would expand protections for those that assist in “gender-affirming care” of minors, ignoring state laws that are meant to protect minors. The rule is open for comment until Friday, June 16.

Rather than empowering women and protecting children, HHS seems to be seeking new ways to devalue women and children.
