And now a very curious thing happened. None
of the children knew who Aslan was any more than you do; but the moment the
Beaver had spoken [his name] everyone felt quite different.... At the name of
Aslan each one of the children felt something jump in its inside. Edmund felt a
sensation of mysterious horror. Peter felt suddenly brave and adventurous.
Susan felt as if some delicious smell or some delightful strain of music had
just floated by her. And Lucy got the feeling you have when you wake up in the
morning and realize that it is the beginning of the holidays or the beginning
of summer.
This passage occurs
in Chapter 7 of C.S Lewis’s The Lion, the
Witch, and the Wardrobe, the second book in The
Chronicles of Narnia, and describes the first time that the children
hear the name Aslan. Each child has a sudden strong reaction to the mysterious Aslan,
each displaying their own individual faith and the effect that faith in God, or
Aslan, will have on each of them throughout the story.
Have you shared the
story of Jesus with your child? How you
as a parent or family member or guardian talk about God makes a difference to
each and every child. At the name of
Jesus something jumps in the inside of each of us. What is it for you? What will it be for the children you
love? Let the name of Jesus heal and
restore you and your family this Christmas.
The angel said,
“Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant
for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior
who is Messiah and Master. - Luke 2:11, The Message
