Parental Rights are a key part of Family Restoration

Virginia has become the state to watch for family restoration.  The biggest story of  the Virginia General Assembly 2022 session thus far has revolved around two major parental rights bills.  The first is SB 739 which requires school divisions to provide in-person instruction and eliminates the mask mandates for students in schools – ensuring parental rights about masking are respected.  This bill was fast-tracked through both chambers, and signed into law by Governor Youngkin during a signing ceremony last week.

Another critical bill is SB 656, which requires the Board of Education to establish policies for local school divisions to follow that require each public K-12 school to provide parental notification and review of sexually explicit content, and offer alternative instructional materials to any student whose parent objects to the curriculum.  This bill is expected to pass since it just passed an identical House version, HB 1009

These issues regarding the rights of parents to direct the upbringing of their children are critically important, as sending your child to public school does not mean that constitutional freedoms are checked at the door.  Rather, it means that family restoration begins with parents acting on behalf of the best interests of their own children - even and particularly in the public square.
