One
year ago an innocent Iranian
woman named Mahsa Amini was arrested and brutally murdered by her own
government for not wearing a hijab properly. She was just 22.
Sadly,
this was not big news until yesterday when Israeli
Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan held up a photo of Mahsa
during the speech of Iran’s President Raisi of Iran. Ambassador Erdan was
detained in New York by UN security personnel. Meanwhile outside
the UN, hundreds of Iranians were protesting for help from the
international community.
The
only person willing to stand up for the protection of Iranian women yesterday
at the UN was an Israeli official who is a Jewish man. These facts indicate the missing moral
compass for many of the UN’s members, including the United States.
Women
deserve the right to life, even in nations where rights equality is not highly
esteemed. Another
Jewish man stood up for one woman, and He has changed the world.
