Protecting Children and the Future

This post is from Samantha Zenker, 3L at Regent University School of Law

As much talk there has been recently of people transitioning, there has also been a great deal of talk about de-transitioners, perhaps most well known at the moment is Chloe Cole. Chole is a California native that began her transition to a boy at the age of 12 and underwent a double mastectomy at age 15. Recently, the 19 year old transitioned back to a female and has been an activist, speaking out against gender affirming care for minors. Her story she gave in front of Congress is tearful to listen to; the lack of care medical providers gave to Chloe but instead were quick to transition her without counseling or proper education. And Chloe is not the only de-transitioner speaking out after realizing the disastrous mistake she made.

What can we do? The Bible tells us in Matthew 7:15 to be vigilant, to “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.” A false prophet in the context of gender care can be those acting without consulting first. They speak out about benefits of transitioning but have little intent of communicating any concerns with clients. Be wary of this deception from those who want to “help” our children; be quick to ask questions; be contemplative about their suggestions. We must also join the movement to establish better protection for children by creating laws that protect them, similar to abortion laws about counseling and second opinions. Children are jewels of Heaven and the future of our states, nation, and world. We must take precautions on their behalf, and hold to a stance that protects them during their vulnerable years.

Hear Chloe Cole’s opening statement on transitioning and de-transitioning at this link here.  Her experience is worth listening to.
